This year looks much better as Mother Nature has a warm spot for us in the Northwest when it comes to events this year. Parents or guardians of new elementary and middle schoolers can register their students at the Spokane Public Schools Administration building, 200 N. Bernard, weekdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. through Aug. 18. High schools are open throughout the summer; call your neighborhood school for hours.   To register, bring a birth certificate or other verification of age and the student’s immunization records.

Rep. Inslee To Visit Spokane In Governor's Race

U-S Representative Jay Inslee is planning a trip to Spokane announce his candidacy in the race for governor. Inslee will launch his campaign Monday in Seattle, followed by a second event in the Yakima Valley town of Wapato. His advisors say he'll make stops in Spokane, Tacoma and Vancouver on Tuesday. Inslee has spent more than a decade in Congress.

High School Students Learn to Fly

High school students from all across Spokane County are getting the chance to get behind the yoke this summer through the Spokane Skills Center. The summer Aerospace Academy will teach the students over the next three weeks a comprehensive taste of the aerospace industry. They spent Wednesday and today getting up in the air with their flight instructors at Geiger Field.

"The feeling was amazing. It's nothing like I've experienced before, but it was kind of choppy," said Bridger Peres, East Valley High School senior.
