Property Taxes Notice

Property Taxes Notice

Rob Chase, Spokane County Treasurer, would like to remind Spokane County taxpayers that first half property taxes are due by April 30 per Washington State law. If payments are mailed to the Treasurer's Office through the U.S. POstal Service, they muct be postmarked on or before the due date (RCW 1.12.070)

Mr. Chase also alerts the publlic to be careful that payments are dropped in a U.S. Postal Service box or station early enough so they are postmarked before the tax deadline. State law dictates that County Treasurers recognize only the cancellation date applied by the U.S. Postal Service to determine timeliness of payments.

Payment options include ACH, debit and credit cards via the Internet, in office, or through our phone system by calling (509) 477-4713 and pressing options #2. Please visit our website at www.spokanecounty.org/treasurer

Attention: Our normal business hours are from 8:30am-4pm, Monday through Thursday and 8:3-am-1:00pm Friday.

Payments can be mailed to the Treasurer's Office at the following address:

Cyclists ride for affordable housing efforts

Cyclists ride for affordable housing efforts

A national non-profit organization is using bike trip across the country to spread the word about affordable housing causes and give young people the chance for a little adventure.

Bike & Build Inc. offers eight cross country biking trips each summer that gives 18 to 25 year old riders the opportunity to experience first hand the affordable housing need in the United States. The riders stop in towns along the route and help with construction of affordable housing units. They also meet with local officials and community members to discuss affordable housing issues.

"I would say, Bike and Build is an incredible opportunity to get young people out to get across the country and get exposed to housing situations," said rider leader Christopher Clark.

On Wednesday, a group of 30 of the cyclists from Bike & Build rode into Spokane after doing several other trips around the country. They started their trip on June 13 in Providence, Rhode Island and are headed to Seattle.

They've done several projects along the way from Iowa, to Ohio to Montana. As Clark said, it's been more than a trip to help those in need, it has been an adventure.

Spokane Real Estate Market: Turning The Corner?

Spokane Real Estate Market: Turning The Corner?

Has the Spokane real estate market finally bottomed out?  Hard to say just yet, but the latest statistics indicate that we might be close.  Here are the highlights from realtor.com

  • The median list price for a home on the market in January was $179,950.  That's virtually the same as it was one month ago ($179,000), and one year ago ($180,000.)  Staying flat is nothing to get excited about, but it sure beats the steadily falling prices we've seen over the past few years.
  • Another positive sign - the median number of days on the market has dropped from from 116 to 110 over the past year.
  • Also, the number of homes for sale has dropped 15% since January, 2011, to 2,534.  Now, that could be because some frustrated home sellers have given up and pulled their house off the market.  But let's be optimists, right?  It's because homes are finally selling again!  The tide is turning!

Eagle Ridge 'Miracle' Home

Eagle Ridge 'Miracle' Home

A new Eagle Ridge home holds the power to change the lives of children. Sunday, everyone is invited to view the home where 100-percent of proceeds from the sale will go towards the Children's Miracle Network.

The home is located at 5501 South Ravencrest in Spokane's Eagle Ridge neighborhood. The house will be open to the public on Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. Members of the Spokane Shock team will be there for a meet-and-greet from noon to 2 p.m.

The home, designed as a rancher by Morse Western Homes, was upgraded to include three additional bedroom, a full bathroom and living area. The home is listed for $389,900 and is 3080 square feet.

Newland Communities, Condron Homes, Morse Western Homes and Homes by George Paras collaborated to make the Miracle Home possible.

“The generosity of the building industry has been overwhelming and because of that the proceeds from the three Miracle Home projects to date will total over $500,000 for the kids in the Inland Northwest,” said Kirsten Carlile, Children’s Miracle Network Director.

Take A Seat At The Silver Cafe

Take A Seat At The Silver Cafe

Spokane is on the cutting edge – at least for Spokane County's Meals on Wheels program.

The county is about to enter territory that has never been explored by opening a Silver Cafe to the public. Normally, Silver Cafes are built in senior homes, where those 60-years-of-age and older can enjoy a home cooked meal for very little or no cost.

The idea to open the cafe to the public started with Pam Almeida, the Executive Director of the county's Meals on Wheels program (not to be confused with Mid-City Concerns Meals on Wheels, which is a different agency.)

“We had been told many times before that our food was good and restaurant quality,” Almeida said. So she thought why should our seniors be the only ones to enjoy the food?

Almeida has been to the Moose Crossing Cafe along Nevada in North Spokane before, but on this particular day there was a sign that simply said: “Because of road construction, we couldn't maintain our customer base.”

They were closed.
